The Venturer Scout Program:
The Venturer Scout program emphasizes having fun while encouraging teens (aged 14 to 17) to feel good about themselves, their friends and family, God, and the environment. The Venturer Scout program helps teens advance their leadership skills and gain self-confidence. The Venturer Scout program is built around a lively variety of activities based on personal and group interests. Venturing emphasizes outdoor and environmental activities, citizenship and community service, leadership and personal development, and career exploration. To experience the best of the outdoors, to develop a sense of self-reliance and teamwork, to explore and challenge to do things you wouldn't normally do. It helps them explore vocational opportunities and allows them to participate in a variety of social, spiritual and cultural activities. They challenge themselves by taking part in physical and outdoor activities. It also helps them get an awareness of the needs of the community and the environment. These skills will prepare them for the adventurous Rover program.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award was founded by His Royal Highness Prince Philip, to encourage personal development and community involvement for young people. The programme has Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, and is open to any person between the ages of 14 and 25. Participants achieve the award by attaining personally established goals, in the areas of Community Service, Skill Development, Physical Fitness, and Expeditions. In pursuing these activities, young people learn responsibility, acquire new skills and increase their level of physical fitness. The achievement of goals these young people have set for themselves, demonstrates their commitment and motivation.
Exchange partner in Czech Republic

Through our annual exchanges with Scouts in Czech Republic, we foster international relations, expand on the World Brotherhood of Scouting and share our Scouting experiences across the ocean. Involvement in the Czech includes a church restoration project, language skills challenge in local high schools and traditional camping skills at their annual summer camp. Members of the 1st Whitby Venturer Scouts have been exchanging back and forth since 2004. Adventures with the Czech Scouts has taken us to Poland, Austria, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, France and Holland.
Queen’s Venturer Award

Active participants in the program are also encouraged to complete the additional requirements for the Queens Venturer Award. The Queen's Venturer Award is the highest Scouting proficiency award for youth members in Scouts Canada that can be regularly awarded. The award is presented to Venturers who have acquired competence and skills that will be of considerable use to themselves, their company, and their community. These Venturers will have also been recognized by the company, the advisor, and Scouts Canada as being worthy of receiving the Award. The Queen's Venturer Award signifies that a Venturer has, in the opinion of those who know the Venturer, both the character and ability to be of significant help to other people.
